60% of All Sony Ericsson Fans Claim To Text Friends More then Lovers, Parents

Sony Ericsson recently asked their Facebook fans, of which there are more than 2.1 million in total, who they texted the most. The poll asked if they use their SIM Free Mobile Phone to text girlfriends, boyfriends, parents or friends the most, and the clear winner of the poll was friends. The company did not release the exact number of fans that replied to the poll, but the results did show that more than 60% of all of their fans on Facebook responded by saying that they texted their friends more than anyone else.

Sony Ericsson also released that “girlfriends” came in second with 20% of the vote, while “boyfriend” finished in third with 12.5%of the vote. Parents came in the final spot and were only able to garner 7.5% of the vote.

Although these numbers are based on a Facebook poll and not based on actual usage data, it does say a lot about texting in American culture today. Most would have guessed that “friends” would have been the number one answer, but no one could have predicted that they would have come in first by such a wide margin.

It will be interesting to see what future; similar polls have to say about the subject. Texting has virtually replaced the usage of direct mail and even e-mailing for that matter when it comes to casual conversation or questions. It is also being increasingly used to send picture and video to friends. The deliver of media was something that was previously done almost exclusively through email, but with the prominence of Facebook and texting it has become increasingly common to send media items using your smart device.  The poll is about as unofficial as they come, but does shed a fair amount of light on how the average Facebook user utilizes the texting features on their phones.

Symbian Foundation Will Be Taken Over by Nokia, Shutting Down

The Symbian foundation is reportedly ready to shut down nearly all of their websites, and Nokia will be taking over the development end of the Symbian company. All of the websites will be shut down on the 17th of September. These sites are commonly used by developers around the world and include the source code from multiple different Symbian platforms, wiki’s filled with information, bug databases for Symbian code and reference documents.

In order to receive the information that is held on the websites after they are shut down, you will be required to contact the company and ask to receive the information physically through a flash drive or other USB storage device. This program will not be made available to developers until the 31st of January, and you will be required to pay a shipping and handling fee.

Specifically, symbian.org, symbian.org/cn and symbian.org/jp, along with all of their developer sites, horizon site, ideas site, and blogs for each of the different countries of operation will be shut down on the same day, making it impossible to find the information previously stored on them on the web.

It remains to be seen how Symbian will perform with its development completely in the hands of the community. It certainly is an interesting approach that will make or break the budding platform that has been the focus of the tech world for quite some time. Symbian has been a highly sought after platform that provided developers with a lot of promise, but with Symbian heading in a completely new direction now that Nokia has announced it is taking over the development end of the operation. the move will certainly benefit some, but will make all of the information that was contained within their websites much harder for would-be developers to obtain.

Motorola DROID Pro Review for Corporate Devices

The Sim Free Motorola DROID Pro is a mobile device that is specifically geared toward individuals that require a phone for corporate use that will also function admirably as a personal mobile device. The move pairs up the largest voice and data network along with the Android OS, along with an app store that has grown a substantial amount in recent years. The phone is meant to be direct competition to phones like the BlackBerry, and other phones that are specifically geared for corporate use.

The QWERTY keyboard is something that most in a business environment will find to be useful. Touch screen keyboards simply do not allow the user enough control over the buttons that they press, and typing is much faster on traditional qwerty keyboards.

The phone screen is only 3.1 inches in order to make room for the phone, and will feature the 4 default Android buttons that are included on all Android phones. Motorola apparently decided that a low resolution display would make sense for a sim free phone that will be geared toward corporate use, and although while we would have liked to see a higher resolution with the screen, the current settings are workable.

The ear speaker on the phone is low in quality, and some users who have received early tests of the phone have reported that it can be hard to hear someone on the other end. Voices sound compressed and almost digitally altered. It is not currently clear if this is a hardware, software, or volume problem with the device at this time.

The device, as with all Android devices, offers flexibility, but at the cost of quality in terms of the screen, battery life and earpiece. The phone is ideal for individuals that want to run the Android platform for businesses purposes, but likely would not suit individuals that are looking for a more personal device.

Positive Q2010 results for Sony Ericsson

The financial results for the second quarter was posted by Sony Ericsson where they said that there has been an increase in sales from the last quarter to the tune of around 25%. This was announced in an official statement by CEO Bert Nordberg. The rise in the sales has been primarily due to the launch of the two very successful phones by the company, the Xperia X10 and the Unlocked Vivaz. In fact Sony Ericsson has been making much more money and they now have a net cash stock of around 609 million Euros which means that they are making way more money that they would before. This has happened in spite of the fact that the average selling price has also increased by 19% to around 160 Euros in comparison to the last quarter.

This good performance has been well received by market analysts and they also see a good future for the company. The frameworks of the company are quite good and the base is already set for a better future performance by the company. What has helped them a lot according to several experts is proper business planning. They have focused on the right areas in the market and the products that they have released have largely been flawless and without major issues which cannot be said for its primary competitors especially in the Unlocked Smartphone market. In fact what has gone a long way to get them these figures is the fact that rather than focusing only on the smartphone market, they have come up with a good product mix. This has meant that they always have kept the money coming in no matter what.

Although we have been somewhat amazed at the huge popularity of the Unlocked Xperia X10 and how much money it has brought in, but we feel that going the Android way is the best for this company.
