For all those lucky Verizon users who managed to get their hands on an HTC Incredible, there is more good news as the Android 2.2 is about to hit these devices any time soon.
The news was forwarded to us by our sources, who say that the incredible over-the-air update will begin rolling out from August 18. As had been the case with, Unlocked Motorola Droid and its Android 2.2 release, Verizon has this time as well decided to release a small batch of upgrades first, before pushing it fully to the public.

It is expected that the Verizon HTC Incredible will endure great benefit from the Android 2.2 simply because it manages brings an array of new and awaited improvements for example a much faster browser coupled with an improved performance overall. A simple look at all the features of Andriod 2.2 makes us realise how the OS is apt for the HTC Incredible.

For a long time now the device had taken some sort of a back seat when it came to devices such as the Apple iPhone4 and its latest release and even other Android smartphones such as the Motorola Droid X, the Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S and EVO 4G devices. There is somehow no justification as to why this happened because in all practicality the phone itself is Incredible!
Overall, it is safe to say that Verizon Incredible is indeed one of the better Android phone. Its hardware specs can easily take on all that the market has to offer. Its very light to carry and can handle most tasks such as maps, videos, UI, maps, apps with considerable ease. The design and specs of this device are really enticing and no matter what the drawbacks are, the Incredible scores high marks for sure. To cut the long story tremendously short its “Incredible”!!

Even though Android 2.2 Froyo is heading for Motorola Droid owners in coming weeks, it seems Droid owners would still have to hang on for the Flash 10.1 to be compatible with their phones. Flash 10.1 Player is expected to be available for Droid owners not before August 18th.
Many users got confused after upgrading to Froyo on their Unlocked Motorola Droid because Flash Player, with its newly upgraded OS was still not launched in the Android market. However, as per the above document the new Flash Player will take some time to make it available in the market, so users have to be patient. The fact that has been highlighted is that even after updating Moto Droid with Android 2.2 Froyo, Moto users would still have to make an “additional download” in order to enjoy Flash in totality.

Either some issues regarding compatibility with Flash might have delayed the launch or maybe there is some other reason for it non-availability which we are unaware of. Maybe Verizon has some information regarding this, maybe a new beta is going to be launched for the Flash player, or perhaps Flash player is coming all together out of beta. It is indeed a lot fun to speculate.

Whatever the case maybe, whether beta is there or not, Moto Droid users can soon download the Adobe Flash application within two to three weeks. Considering that Droid 2 is going to be launched on 12th August, people have ample time to decide whether they want to upgrade their Droid 2. Seeing the performance of Flash on the original smartphone of Motorola Android, one can imagine how better it would run on Android’s successor. The web would soon be available in America’s most sought-after Android phone, and now it is for us to wait and see how well the performance is on the mid-range hardware. Now the question is whether to upgrade to the upcoming D2 or to stick to the old D1?

For the pleasure of your installing, just a few days ago, we got our hands on the first Android 2.2 leaked build, also known as Froyo for the Unlocked Motorola Droid. With a latest ROM available, this one being the legitimate deal, which implies the Verizon official build version, will be available in handsets soon.
Rather than the first leaked build we saw which was unable to solve a bug the latest ROM fixes the problem, FRG22 is a notch higher from the previous, FRG01B. One of Verizon’s internal documents which was uncovered by Droid-Life, points to the forthcoming Froyo update by its FRG22 build number FRG22. I guess that is enough evidence to think that this ROM is not the official. Unlike the Nexus One at least, it’s better to see that this version is not followed by other test builds. Hopefully, Droid owners can install this without worrying about something fresher coming up.

With the authorized ROM apparently available, we will be expecting Droid 2 hardware sometime soon. If that does prove to be try, and if the August 12 is a success, Samsung Epic 4G may be launched a day prior to the launch of Droid 2, quite similar to what Verizon did when it introduced the Droid X a day prior to the launch of Unlocked iPhone 4. That will be like a taste of their own medicine for Verizon, but Epic 4G is a highly considerable option before purchasing the Droid 2.
If all the peripherals go as per plan, you’ll have the option of choosing from among two Android smartphones with QWERTY keyboard.

Now speaking with your friends on Facebook will be easier through what Vonage is doing with its new exciting application on the Apple iPhone and Android device which will enable you to speak using VoIP service to call up your contacts that are there on your profile on Facebook, currently the world’s biggest social networking web page.
Mobile VoIP applications are nothing new but Vonage is coming out with their new application which is directed towards Facebook users where you can link it with the portal and
connect with your friends who are there on your profile. We tried this application out on the new Unlocked Motorola Droid and it has worked pretty well.
As said earlier you can use this phone also on the iPhone and the Google Android and with it you will be able to get instant messages to your device from all the friends on your list as well as make phone calls directly with the use of 3G or Wi-Fi for that matter depending on what application the user has on his phone.

We had tested the voice quality and reception on this application and we were not disappointed. However one needs to be really careful if they are using the Unlocked iPhone4 version of this one as the 3G calls on needs to make will mean that the data charges will run up to quite a high amount. In a recent statement given to the press, Vonage have said that they will be bringing the next step of integrated voice and messaging service to the world with their new application. It is definitely pretty interesting that any VoIP company will come up with an application with such a focus on Facebook. It only shows how important social networking has become in today’s world.

HTC has recently informed that it would launch its latest software upgrade that will be installed in the Droid 2 model. The date of release of the software is still under speculation but 23rd August seems to be the date on which the company has their eyes on. But HTC is being their best and are not keeping anyone disappointed. If you had thought the HTC had only been thinking about the software for the latest unlocked smartphone then you have been wrong. There are other Android devices that are also getting the lavish Froyo treatment. The next model that is up for the Froyo upgrade is the HTC Desire model. This bit of news is sure to create a sensation amongst the European tech freaks. This upgrade provides for improved features like being able to store applications on the mobile device itself and also an improvement from the 480 to 720p recording abilities.

Later on, HTC confirmed the news through their official site. They mentioned that the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the HTC desire models will be starting to roll out of the manufacturing units all across Europe this weekend. Though their more sensational launch with the Droid 2 model is set on a later date but they are going ahead and giving Europeans to get a sneak peak at what may be at offer in the Unlocked Droid model through the Desire model.

They confirmed that it would contain the 720 video capture recording capabilities and also the HTC appearance Share widget would be included and along with that there will be the HTC caller ID identification scheme installed. Also with all these features will be the Multilanguage keyboard. One of the best and creative upgrade in the Froyo software is that it would allow the HTC Desire to be able to synch with the music of the iTunes.

Motorola has thankfully decided to release the source code for their flagship device which is the Unlocked Motorola Droid ( X ) available on Verizon. For the hacker and developer, this is a huge development although there are still some issues with this code that has been made public. Seems that the code has got some part missing which is essential to make a perfectly working third party ROM. This is a pretty worrying development if one was hoping to cash in on this release. Most of the code which people have laid their hands on does work and the developers are looking for ways to work around the thing such that they can still make it work and therefore the code is not useless in any way, However the lack of the important part of the code along with the codes for eFuse service and this open source release will indeed make it a tad bit harder for the developers to get their work done. In spite of all this, there is still hope that Android will be possible to work around such that one can get a custom ROM in the future.

Although there is some amount of work being done still, we have to contend with what we have got for now. The Droid X has been rooted and one can put in a suite which contains root only programs and hence the functionality of this phone will be increased. For the users who do not want the custom skin, they will need to wait for a new ROM to come to the Unlocked Motorola Droid ( X ). The MotoBlur like skin which is currently there, however is not all that bad and the customizations can be done pretty easily. However all said and done, this is a matter exclusively for the developers.

This is the time for a large number of happenings in the market of smartphones. There have been several big things which have happened within a short period of time and one really may find it hard to keep up with all this news. It all started with Apple deciding to reconcile with their customers and give away free iPhone 4 bumper cases, this was followed by bigger news of the release of the Unlocked Motorola Droid (X) on the Verizon plus the release of the Galaxy S phones. This is something big happening with respect to the Android phone market and we are glad to bring you more on this front.

As for the Apple refund, the company decided to finally go ahead and make public its opinion with respect to the antenna issue. They attacked the media and have said that the whole problem had not been dealt correctly and they were not really the ones to blame. While making such a statement, they did however promise to provide free bumper cases to all its users. All this was in the wake of the major issue which had flared up due to the reception problems in the Unlocked iPhone 4 when you would hold it in a certain way. As more and more users reported this issue, the company’s image had taken a major beating. Many consumer reports were actually taking away their recommendations for this phone. With all this being said, Apple was pretty cautious and said that this problem of the ‘Death Grip’ is seen on many other major smartphones which are there in the market.

According to what Apple has said, this issue has really been over hyped by the media and only 1% of the users had come to them with this problem. Although Apple has come up with a bumper case refund, they have not decided to come up with a fix to it.

All you gizmo fanatics prepare to be astounded by the coolest thing ever. If you are the sort that already possess an HTC Desire and are looking forward to getting hold of an Android 2.2, then the newest invention from the XDA stable is just what you need, a Froyo port to the handset. This ROM chip developed by “UDK” enables the HTC Desire to record 720p HD videos which together with the 5-megapixel camera brings the device at par with high end devices like Apple’s iPhone4 and the Motorola Droid X, which is going to be launched very soon.

Added incentives in the form of latest firmware come with the Android 2.2 ROM which is also enabled with HTC’s Sense technology and perfects the way we view the “little green robot”. It can support Adobe’s flash technology, which means that now you can not only play YouTube videos in the browser, but also access various games for the first time in a HTC Desire handset.

And this is not where it all ends because the Froyo build includes a JIT compiler which speeds up the overall performance of the device and Google’s decision to update it to the Unlocked Google Nexus One means only good news from its users as this means that things work much faster and smoother and it makes switching between applications a much easier process, add to this the incredible little visual touches that makes watching videos a fulfilling experience. Isn’t this something you wish all high-end devices to have?
However in the world of technology, gizmos and gadgets, competition is the order of the day and in response to this unique creation by the XDA developer the people at Cyanogen are busy developing their port for the N1 and Unlocked Motorola Droid. There is however one little word of caution, these technologies that are in its inception can be buggy and may require rooting up your device and so it is always wise to wait a little before making a beeline in front of the store on the day of its launch. That is, if you are not restless enough to wait for an official update.

After months of waiting, the users of the Android phone will finally get the Amazon kindle app on their phone through which you can not only buy but also read books at the Amazon Digital Store. With the e-reader feature, you can actually synch it with your Motorola Droid Android Phone such that you do not lose your place in the text.

Be warned as this feature is only available on the android versions 1.6 and above. There are also other novelties like
- · Bookmarks
- · Adjusting text size
- · Alternating between landscape and portrait formats and
- · Touch support for flipping through pages.
However sadly, the Kindle app on the android does not support the Kindle newspapers, magazines and blogs but they are soon to be released. Till then we can follow the other alternatives for this.

Although these kinds of shortcomings really make the Android owner feel hard done by as the iPhone app has not only been around for longer but has several other better features along with soon to be included videos and photos for the iPad. Although updates will be made available to the Android users, it is uncertain as to how long it will take to finally be available to the consumers.

One cannot really blame Amazon for targeting the iOS market but it is also interesting to note that Apple is coming out with its own variant of the Kindle with the iBooks. This was available with the iPad and now is also available on the Apple iPhone4 and iPod touch. However its library is not as exhaustive as the Kindle app.
Although it might be so that not all of us are really big fans of the e-Reader, but it is always healthy with several competitors in the market giving stiff competition to each other.
