First Blackberry Store Launches in China

Blackberry had been making headlines for around a decade now. They were one of those things that the world looked forward too with batted eyes. It was one of the first generation Unlocked Smartphones much before Apple brought about its iPhone series and way ahead of Motorola and Verizon’s Android products. Nokia & Blackberry had been ruling the roost for quite some time now in many countries across the globe. It has its store’s, outlets, manufacturing bases and customer service main offices planted in various corners of the world. And now joining in that league is our technological giants, the mainland China.

A new Blackberry store opened up in Shanghai. This outlet provides its customers a full tour of the Blackberry experience. It even gives its visitors a chance to know the plans for China Mobile Right in store and also selling proper devices. Though the Chinese store doesn’t have all the models of the Blackberry that have been released, their sales are restricted to only the 8910 and Unlocked 8310 right now, but the way the people have responded to the Blackberry that it seems that the Chinese stores would have to recruit more crew to provide them a helping hand and more so it looks quite obvious that china would bring in all the other models of the Blackberry.

Other than that the store also sells in products such as the Blackberry presenter and the headphones and cases along with various other Blackberry accessories. Nokia has been living on the edge and risking the shutting down of few of their stores only to open up new stores somewhere else to places where there has been stronger carrier presence. This type of strong carrier presence does help it to stay ahead of the competition but it still has plenty of local competition to contend with.

Facebook getting Chat for BlackBerry

In today’s fast world, where everyone is working 24/7, keeping social contacts and maintaining a social life can be pretty hard. It’s hard to keep contacts with friends and family when you reside far away and don’t have enough time to sit in front of the computer and chat for long. Luckily for all the workaholics, BlackBerry’s Pearl 9100 has just the solution.

The social networking website, Facebook is in high demand and has a user base of over 400 million and still growing. It allows its users to connect with friends and acquaintances and other long lost faces by means of adding people as friends, instant chats, sending messages, status updates, profile updates in order to keep their friends up to date about themselves. Moreover, Facebook allows its users to be a part of the applications, networks, blogs and groups organized by schools, colleges, workplaces, other organizations and even individuals.

BlackBerry is the other issue under consideration here. BlackBerry – the innovation and creation of the Canadian company Research In Motion- is a chain of mobile emails and Smartphone devices. It includes features like address book, calendar, to-do lists, message sending, and telephone facilities. BlackBerry stands out because of its unique capability to send and receive Internet e-mails, wherever it can access a compatible mobile network.  There is still no fixed date as to when RIM might be releasing Facebook Chat for BlackBerry. No formal announcements have been done as yet. It is true that RIM hasn’t updated the application in a very long time. So, it would be a great thing if something came out soon.

However, on the downside, a harmless Facebook user while looking through the application permissions found that Facebook for BlackBerry application asked for the user’s permission to log in to the instant messaging service, though it doesn’t offer mobile chat. This problem is pretty weird, and has been taken up by Putnam and his team.

The Downside of Android Applications

Android is Google’s operating system for mobile devices. It competes with the Symbian Platform, Apple’s iOS for the Unlocked iPhone 4 and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile. Android includes middleware and some key applications, and uses the Linux Kernel, rather a modified version of it. Some features of Android are SQLite, AndroidScan, BioWallet, BreadCrumbz, Beetaun, etc.

SMobiles Systems have conducted a study of the Android applications, and have come out with disappointing conclusions. There are about 48,000 Android applications, and 20% of them have been termed as malicious. SMobiles Systems have said that Android applications grant access to third-party applications, and leave our information stored in our mobiles at risk. It was found that some of the applications could make calls and send text messages, without the consent or the knowledge of the user. To be precise, 5% of the Android applications can place calls to any number, while 2% of these applications can allow an application to send unknown messages to premium numbers. This results in very expensive charges and leakage of personal information from the mobile phone. Research shows that most of these applications act like spyware when they are infiltrating personal files. These applications can gain access to e-mails, call information, device location, etc. According to Google, there is a way to get rid of these malicious programs. According to them, developers must go through billing background checks, to confirm their real identities, and they will gladly get rid of these malicious programs.

SMobiles Systems are not saying that all Google Nexus One Unlocked Mobile that have Android applications are malicious, but most of them could be abusive. In order to avoid such problems, users should be aware of what applications they are downloading, and to check the settings for download. Sometimes it happens that Android applications carry out malicious tasks because they have been expressively instructed to do so before their download.

“Savings Calculator” by Koodo is a hit

Koodo is in the news for a variety of reasons these days. Firstly it was due to their recent launch of the Unlocked BlackBerry Curve 8520, their first BlackBerry phone into the Canadian market. At the same time, they also recently went live with a new HSPA network. Today, another giant step was taken by Koodo in respect to the launching of a Saving Calculator. Through this calculator, it becomes possible for users to simply upload directly a PDF document of their monthly bill and depending on the statement of the bill, a customer drawn up plan of the best possible subscription for the customer will be brought up. This calculator can also help you determine just what exactly the amount of money you could save per month is.

While we still have absolutely no idea as to how Koodo comes up with such a recommendation, you should remember to not consider this calculation as binding. In fact, it is even stated on the fine print of the website that any custom generated plan is done so only for informational purposes and users using it cannot bind Koodo mobile. Says a representative of Koodo, “We are extremely happy to announce that users can now go about creating their very own custom plan depending on their previous monthly bills. Through the utilization of our Savings calculator, it becomes possible for users to come to know where they can go about saving and cutting down costs. However, users have to remember that this is still a pilot project and as such, Koodo Mobile can in no way be held responsible for any of the recommendations made, irrespective of the savings they might result in. We do not offer any form of guarantee or warranty for the results displayed by the calculator.”

Even if there is no guarantee being offered, it is best that you decide on using such a “Savings Calculator”, just remember to think twice before you actually decide to go ahead and choose that plan.

More Consumer-friendly BlackBerry’s

Research In Motion (RIM) is working very hard to make the BlackBerry phone more consumer-friendly. The BlackBerry has gained huge reputation in the market, and RIM is striving to make the BlackBerry experience even more easy and enjoyable.

RIM has already produced a refreshed line up of BlackBerry’s. And these new BlackBerry’s come with many new features for its consumers. A number of social networking and multimedia applications have been built into the new BlackBerry’s. The BlackBerry is generally seen as a corporate device, but RIM has tried to change this notion and add some zing into the BlackBerry’s image, by introducing the new model, the BlackBerry Bold (Unlocked Bold2 9700).

The Bold has a large screen, and is a powerful 3G device, the top of its class. It has a new 4.6 version software, a new web browser for fast internet surfing, Wi-Fi, GPS, a 2 megapixel camera for good photography. The Bold also has great compatibility, and can support a large number of audio and video codecs. Some people might argue that most phones in this segment offer these facilities, but there is one thing that the Bold has, which can knock out all other sets in its league. The Bold will rely on the strengths of the BlackBerry services for web activities, and here, the BlackBerry still reigns supreme.

Another new addition to the BlackBerry line up is the Unlocked Pearl Flip, which is targeted at young buyers and for those who are going to have their first BlackBerry experience. It has the same SureType keypad, quad-band GSM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. The flip factor is another advantage for its success. The Flip will target consumers in North America. It will also have many data-intensive consumer applications, like streaming applications and content sharing.

So, it is evident that RIM is trying very hard to take the BlackBerry trademark higher up in the market, and it seems RIM will surely succeed in doing so.
