Office Mobile 2010 released, free upgrade for WinMo 6.5 users

After having been on public beta since late last year Office Mobile 2010 is now available in conjunction with the retail release of the full desktop version of Office 2010.  This new mobile version brings comprehensive forms of Word, Excel and PowerPoint editing to your Unlocked HTC Pure Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets.  Even though Windows Phone 7 has been Microsoft’s biggest mobile news this year there will certainly be a large number of existing Windows Mobile 6.5 users out there for Microsoft to pay attention to.  This latest version of Office Mobile will include SharePoint integration for grabbing documents from your office while on the go plus a Bluetooth controller mode for PowerPoint presentations.  The download is available in the Windows Marketplace for users of 6.5 devices with an older version of Office Mobile installed.

With the recent release of Microsoft Office 2010 for desktop computers it is perfect timing that Microsoft will also be releasing the latest version of Office Mobile.  The free upgrade for HTC Tilt2 Unlocked Windows Mobile 6.5 users is a nice touch by Microsoft as well. With the upcoming release of Windows Mobile 7 Microsoft will still have to pay attention to their current WinMo 6.5 users with the hopes of eventually turning them into WinMo 7 users.  This upgrade to Office Mobile 2010 has been a long time in the making.  Some much needed features have been added to this program such as the ability to download files remotely from your computer onto your mobile device and Bluetooth controller for PowerPoint presentations.  These two features plus many others will make the Office Mobile experience that much better for consumers who still have a Windows Mobile 6.5 device.

New developer challenge offers Android devs a trip to TED if they can get people moving

The good people over at Snaptic have launched a new developer challenge that is designed to get people up and moving.  The premise behind the challenge is quite simple.  All you need to do is develop an Android app to use even on your HTC Pure, that gets people up and moving and you can win an all expense paid trip to the TED Global 2010 conference.

HTC Pure Black AT&T Unlocked GSM Cellular Phone

This is a great new contest that the people at Snaptic are putting on.  While obesity continues to become a larger and larger problem in this country it is very rare that we will look to our mobile devices, like the Nexus One,  to help us get out and exercise more.  Sure there are already a few apps out there that are designed to make exercising easier and thus more likely to happen but there are no apps currently designed to get people to exercise regularly.

I certainly applaud Snaptic for their initiative here with this new contest they are putting together.  It would be great if this project set off a whole new line of Android apps that were designed to get people outside and exercising more frequently.  Since smartphones are becoming such a huge part of our every day lives it only makes sense to try and include some sort of applications that will help people better themselves and get into shape.  Of all of the various ways we are trying to fight obesity this is one of the more creative things I have seen.  I think this is a great idea and can not wait to see what type of apps are developed so that I can use them myself to help push me to get outside and exercise this spring and summer.
