Research In Motion is a company that has been known to keep things under wraps regarding new products until the very last minute. However, now, just days before their looming presentation at the Consumer Electronics Show 2010, the company gave a 15 minute presentation of the use of their new BlackBerry PlayBook, the new tablet device that Research In Motion was set to unveil at the Consumer Electronics Show along with there unlocked Blackberry mobile.

The video shows that the PlayBook has some very strong hardware. It feels good in the hands and has a good weight about it. The seven inch screen seems a bit small, but works as described by the company. The screen is crisp, and every visual on the Playbook looks great. Text is easy to read and you can smoothly navigate from one screen to another. Although it is not as sharp as the Retina display that Google offers, it will undoubtedly be better than much of the competition.

From the hands on that they allowed, it is clear that Research in Motion is committed to offering a marketplace full of apps that are specifically designed with the PlayBook in mind. The hands-on showcase did not allow us to use any of the app marketplace apps that are available, but all of the software that came preloaded on the pre-release version ran super smoothly throughout its use. There was no noticeable lag throughout use, and even when we tried to put a little bit of pressure on the processing power it didn’t budge one bit.
The software is more than adequate, and should run any app with ease. Overall, it looks as though the PlayBook will be legit competition for the iPad and soon to be released Unlocked Galaxy Tab, which is also expected to sell well. For a first attempt at entering the tablet market, it appears that Research in Motion has hit a home run with the PlayBook.

The Google Voice app that recently made its way to the Apple App Store has received an update that will now allow the app to be run on the iPad and iPod Touch, two devices that had previously not been able to run the app. Google also announced that users on both the iPad and iPod Touch will be able to use the app to send and receive free text messages through their app even if they are not currently with a carrier that would allow them to do so.
The devices, however, cannot be used as a phone themselves, and instead are used to deliver the Google Voice calls with your actual sim free phones. This feature, which Google has dubbed Click2Call, is one that probably won’t see as much use as the ability to text message from the device, but is an interesting one none the less. The features will allow you to select which of your phones that you would like to ring when you receive a Google Voice call, giving you the ability to switch the phone that the calls are directed to at the click of a button. Went to the office and forgot your personal phone at home? That’s fine; switch it to your office mobile device through your Apple iPad for the ability to receive calls.

A number of other improvements were also included in the updated including the ability to enable Push Notifications that disable the text forwarding so you do not have to sit through multiple notifications for the same text. It also provides you with the ability to send all of your callers to your voice mail.
At this point the app is only available for download in the US through the Apple App Store, and is considered to be completely out of the beta process. So far there have been no bugs reported.

The beginning of this week also marked the release of Apple’s iOS 4.0.2, an eagerly anticipated update that dealt with a security vulnerability in the previous versions that allowed third parties to meddle with the settings on any Apple iPad or iPhone particularly the antics of the infamous JailbreakMe.com. The security update was a major step towards fixing a problem that would have given workers at Apple nightmares however for some strange reason Apple did not even think about including the series of original iPhones or for that matter even the first generation of iPod Touch as a part of this update.

The omission is not as trivial as it may look like for the iOS 4 shortcoming allows an execution of an arbitrary code when user opens any PDF file unsuspectingly or even visits any malicious website. Now that the flaw in the security code has been fully exposed, it may well eventually spread to several malignant entities beyond the severely benign website JailbreakMe.com. Thus users of Apple’s earliest mobile technology, which is presumably still used by fairly large number of people, remain continually vulnerable to any threat and a strongly growing risk of attack.

The good news is that the iPhone4 community has its own development team who have managed to push out a separate patch that deals with this problem. The PDF Patch fixes this security loophole in all the iPod and iPhone models. The added adavantage to this patch is that it will work with all the current iPods and iPhones. If you own a current generation device from Apple and haven’t applied for the newly released update, you may ignore it and simply apply the ingenious patch instead. In the end Apple’s refusal to including the older generation devices in this update has been a blessing in disguise for those who did not wish to update their OS to deal with the security hole.

Jerry Shen, CEO Asustek Computers recently said that the company intends to release a high end tablet which will run on the Android platform. The tentative release date is around March 2011. The tablet, will be the latest addition to Asustek’s Eee Pad range of devices, and is expected to cost less than $400.

A dedicated team of 800 engineers have been assigned to work on Android compatibility by Asus. However before the imminent release of the Android tablet we may well end up seeing Asus release what is believed to be a tablet powered by Windows 7, costing around $1000. To what extent will powering the tablet on Windows 7 be a good idea is open to debate and most opinions call it a disaster waiting to happen, still you can never really know!
The buzz in the market is that the Asus tablets may well be the much awaited products that can battle the growing dominance of Apple’s iPad in the market. However that is a long way away to say the least. Yet the delay may actually be a good thing if Asus is indeed trying to make the tablet more user friendly during this time as the CEO claims. Mr. Shen believes that if the iPad has to be tackled in the present market situation then a lesser price alone will take them nowhere, the need will be to offer more features at their intended price. If Mr. Shen is to be believed then the 800 engineers involved are looking to do just that with the tablet from Asus.

Beating Apple at its own game in its own playground will be no mean feat, yet there is much hope that Asus will take Apple iPhone4 on with their feature laden project. If all goes well then the release for Asus’s tablet and the Android Gingerbread will coincide. If that happens, Apple may be in for a very busy summer indeed!

Apple iOS devices are soon to be getting new mobile hotspot services from Clearwire. This has been confirmed recently by the service provider as they will be coming out with the design for this device which will be compatible with the Unlocked Apple iPhone4, iPad and iPod. The iSpot will be getting 4G services up and running for WiFi hotspots which will for at a distance of 150 feet or so. We have tested this new service out and we have got pretty good results where we have received internet connection speeds between 2 to 9 mbps on the EVO 4G. This service will be costing some amount of money, to the tune of around $100, but you can also sign up for it at special prices of $25 where the facility will be available for a month where you get unlimited 4G access. There is however no long contract which is available in this relation term. However this device will only be compatible with the Apple iOS instruments and therefore there is no chance of you being able to use this for your home’s net connection.

This hotspot feature means that you can now use the internet on your Unlocked iPhone 4 and iPad 3G without having to pay all the additional charges which are levied on the users otherwise. Furthermore, this hotspot feature will mean that a greater bandwidth will be available for you to access on your Apple iPad which is something that any 3G service will not offer any way. With this new service the iSpot, the users of the iDevice will not have to be confused with a huge amount of payment options and data usage plans which can be pretty dicey otherwise. With the Clearwire service, the users can now run Apple mobile devices with full broadband speed with the payment of a small monthly fee.

Apple seems to be the ‘one’ when it comes to imaginative and explorative ideas and improvements. They have been putting in all type of applications, upgrades, and innovative improvements in most of their models. These ideas have made Apple stand out in its competition with other manufacturers. Apple’s latest venture the Apple iPad seems to be pulling ahead when it comes to the creativity packaging in the gadget.

Now most of these small improvements, if we can call them are basically out of this world and practically not much of use.
But recently an application or rather a mechanism in the iPad caught our eyes. It’s called the FridgePad. We all have something stuck up on our fridges right? Be it a small tag about some reminder or be it a picture frame. Sometimes magnets are used to make stuff cling onto the fridge. But I bet none have thought of the idea of your laptop dangling from the fridge. But Apple’s iPad seems to promise exactly that. They have installed extremely powerful magnets on their casing. These magnets are purposefully built so as they get stuck in any position whatsoever on any magnetic body. Hence the name: the FridgePad.

Though the idea and the innovation seem not feasible at first, but I on the other hand with time have found this bit of improvement quite extraordinary. Well, I for one am not big on organizing and keeping things in place! So every morning there is a lot of time that’s wasted in searching for socks, wallet or the watch. Sometimes I even misplace my laptop. Now it’s beginning to seem sensible that if it be placed on the fridge, neither will it be there at a specific place everyday but it will be hard to forget and notice. Hence it won’t pain us to rush back out of the car and open the door keys to get the laptop that I had forgotten to bring along. The laptop comes in great many designs, so it would be adding quite a bit of flair to your monotone fridge.

Vaja has always come up with innovative cases for several models of phones. There are an immense number of selection options available. There are cases for Apple iPad and Blackberry. They are great in style and design. Recently, they have come up with iPhone 4 cases and they are unique in their style and are extremely useful. They are affordable and you can purchase such cases from Vaja depending on your budget.

There are a number of categories to choose from again for iPhone 4. The flip-lid case is good for protecting the phone but sometimes it poses a problem for iPhone 4 users who believe that a touchscreen phone is difficult to operate with a flip-lid case covering. It may be useful, yet a problem in its own way. The ‘black series’ of the Vaja cases of the flip-lid cases of Vaja cost around $80 and has a sleek look. Really stylish flip-lid covers for Unlocked iPhone4. ‘IVolution Top SP’ cases are equally good if not better. It has stripes which gives a distinct look to these cases. It comes at a cost of around £60. The ‘iVolution Top’ cases are also available which has everything minus the stripes of ‘iVolution Top SP’. This costs £54. The most expensive cases of Vaja come at the cost of £75 and are called ‘iVolution Stripes case’. They are quite similar to ‘iVolution Top Sp’ but differ in the fact that there are multiple color options to choose from which are rather unique.

If you are still not satisfied with the cases on offer, you can always use a slim bag for your Unlocked Apple iPhone 4. It might not be a flip-lid case but a bag is usually quite useful both for protection and use. The bag cost £40. The bag is highly useful if you are looking to avoid the hassles of the flip-lid.

To all the doubters of the HP tablet product which will be powered by webOS, there is some news which might just interest you. Hewlett Packard has filed for a patent for the ‘PalmPad’. You might not have heard of the company and so we have done our research so as to provide you detailed information.

HP has recently completed a $1.2 billion takeover of the Palm. The company has recently said that it will be working extra long on the webOS and they will look to bring it out on several devices like Unlocked Smartphones and computers and printers along with tablet computers. The bracket of the tablet computers is a really contested space as Apple to has vigorously into the tablet market with the entry of the iPad which has been largely successful all around the world markets. However HP can rest happy because most of the market analysts think that the PalmPad can be a good alternate to the Apple iPad. In fact the company has planned to intensify this competition by actually giving some exciting new features like frontal camera and USB inputs which are in fact not there in the primary ante to this device which is the iPad.

These are all however in the planning stage and the webOS is still being worked upon by the company under the code name ‘Hurricane’. We can also confirm that HP has been working on coming up with their tablet devices which will be able to run Windows 7 and the likes of Android such that they can put all their attention on their own software and this fact has been shown by Apple how a good device can be churned out with a good combination of software and hardware.
Although PalmPad is nice, we are actually looking forward to HP’s answer to the Unlocked iPhone 4 and the Samsung S Galaxy I9000 etc.

Here is some good news for the probable Apple buyers all around the world as the Unlocked iPhone 4 and iPad are now going to be released to various new international markets. In a statement from the company, Apple has said that they will be releasing the iPad in Austria, Hong Kong, Luxembourg, and Netherlands etc in a matter of days and there will be more on the way. With the opening up of so many markets all around the world, it means that there will be more sales for the company and their earnings are set to increase in a major way to the extent that the iPad will now be shipped in the numbers of six million units in a year.

The prices for the Apple iPad which will be Wi-Fi enabled coming with 16 GB memory will be made available at a price of $499 and for $599 for the 32 GB version and there is also another 64 GB iPad which will be available for a hundred dollars more. The individual prices for this device will vary and the 3G iPad will come between a price range of $629 and $829. We think that the prices for this model are pretty good and we can’t wait for the sales for this phone to be expanded. We through our market analyses have found out that the iPad has sold pretty well and the company will hopefully be reaching sales of the level of $1 billion in the upcoming quarter. The success of this device has somewhat bemused us as it does not really offer something really new from the line of the iDevice.

The company is also doing a lot to improve on the shortcomings of the iPhone 4 especially the antenna issue which has been causing a lot of damages to the image of this device. These developments hopefully will be bringing in greater revenue for the company.

As if we needed another reason to be jealous of the way Chinese residents are being treated within the unlocked mobile device world these days by Dell here is another one to add to your list. Spotted on Chinese mobile regulator TENAA’s website are two new 3G phones that appear to be from seemingly different design departments.

One of the devices is the never before seen Mini 3Ti which is a TD-SCDMA / GSM dual mode cellphone that supports HSPDA, has a 2 megapixel camera on the back plus a front facing one and will more than likely come with the Ophone as the OS. The second device is the Mini 3X, which some are calling the exotic cousin of AT&T’s Aero, that will sport the same old WCDMA radio. There is no word yet when these two devices will be available in China.
While it may seem that China is getting some preferential treatment lately by Dell when it comes to their new 3G mobile devices I am not overly concerned about the lack of attention Dell is paying to the US consumer base. With the recent announcement that the Dell Mini 5 Streak is on the way to compete with Apple’s iPad I would much rather they focus their attention on getting that device correct than pushing out more lackluster 3G devices.
Dell’s feeble attempts at entering the mobile device industry have been lacking in success. I think it would be in Dell’s best interests to focus their attention on their new Mini 5 Streak pad that is a smaller version of the iPad. Dell does make some good computers and laptops and will probably have a much better time trying to succeed in the notepad market than in the mobile device one.
