Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini finally shows itself

August 9th, 2010

The Unlocked Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini has finally come out of the factories and we managed to give this phone a good test run and have got a pretty good idea of how this phone will be performing and its pros and cons. One major problem that the users will surely face when they are operating this phone is that there is no actual physical keyboard on this one which will create some amount of discomfort for the more used to BlackBerry users who are not really accustomed to using a virtual key pad and we feel that this is one of the major downers of this phone and will surely cause some of the probable buyers to think twice. The multitap keypad which is there on this one is pretty slow and pales in comparison with the predictive one which is pretty fast.  In terms of typing, this is probably one of the only positives as typing and text manipulation is pretty good as one can switch between various kinds of keypads and whatever predictions are there, are quite decent.

The cursor motion on this one is good and one long press will actually get you to a pop up view of the entire row and the position of the pointer will be there right above your finger which makes moving the pointer on the screen a breeze. However be careful with the long press on the touch pad as if you happen to do that then you will bring up the Edit text menu. This phone is slightly wider than the Unlocked Mini Pro and therefore you will get more room to go through the net and other multimedia functions. The 5 megapixel camera on this one is just about okay for putting up pictures on Facebook. We will have more details on this phone pretty soon so stay tuned.

Positive Q2010 results for Sony Ericsson

July 28th, 2010

The financial results for the second quarter was posted by Sony Ericsson where they said that there has been an increase in sales from the last quarter to the tune of around 25%. This was announced in an official statement by CEO Bert Nordberg. The rise in the sales has been primarily due to the launch of the two very successful phones by the company, the Xperia X10 and the Unlocked Vivaz. In fact Sony Ericsson has been making much more money and they now have a net cash stock of around 609 million Euros which means that they are making way more money that they would before. This has happened in spite of the fact that the average selling price has also increased by 19% to around 160 Euros in comparison to the last quarter.

This good performance has been well received by market analysts and they also see a good future for the company. The frameworks of the company are quite good and the base is already set for a better future performance by the company. What has helped them a lot according to several experts is proper business planning. They have focused on the right areas in the market and the products that they have released have largely been flawless and without major issues which cannot be said for its primary competitors especially in the Unlocked Smartphone market. In fact what has gone a long way to get them these figures is the fact that rather than focusing only on the smartphone market, they have come up with a good product mix. This has meant that they always have kept the money coming in no matter what.

Although we have been somewhat amazed at the huge popularity of the Unlocked Xperia X10 and how much money it has brought in, but we feel that going the Android way is the best for this company.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 falls somewhere in between XPERIA X10 Mini and XPERIA X10

June 17th, 2010

As against most devices that are normally launched by Sony Ericsson, this year they are pursuing a much safer route through the release of a mobile powered by Google’s Android operating system. Aptly named the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, this mobile has proved to be a much desirable Unlocked Smartphone equipped with a variety of different features. Sony has also taken it upon themselves to come up with two lower end versions of the Unlocked XPERIA X10, with their XPERIA X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro. Both these phones are solid as mini versions of the full-sized X10. While having 3 models launching would be enough for most, this is not the case with Japanese-Swedish phone maker Sony Ericsson, as they have come up with a fourth mobile as a means of filling the gap between the X10 and its mini versions. This new phone is to be called the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 and is mainly designed so as to provide mid-ranged Android services.

Code named Shakira, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 is designed to look more like the Unlocked X10 Mini’s UI and not like the original Xperia X10. Since there has not been any official confirmation about this device, we still do not have any idea as to what would be the features rolled out with the X8. However, it is expected that the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 will have a screen size of 3 -3.5 inches, fitted with a 5 MP camera on the back. Since it is to be a slightly scaled down version of the X10, a process of around 600 MHz should suffice. Although these are speculations, we assume that the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 will be built along the lines of some average mid-ranged Android smartphones that are available today.

The only issue that Sony Ericsson might have with the X8 is that should it not be capable of meeting users requirements, no one would be willing to go ahead and purchase the Sony Ericsson X10 either.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Got the X Factor

November 11th, 2009

Sony Ericsson’s first android device jumped from X3 to XPERIA X10 most probably to avoid confusing buyers with Nokia’s X3 phone. This rumor however is just in the sidelines because the XPERIO X10 has the X Factor.  A design done for Sony Ericsson cell phones by Esato’s Razec, the XPERIA X10 bears the codename Eureka.

This neat phone has a smartphone concept with a curved sliding device with a dual design on the front bearing metallic and brushed metal finishes.

The phone supports GSM, quadband HSUPA, UMTS, and EDGE connectivity. Others onboard are WiMAX, WLAN, DLNA technology and Bluetooth 2.1 plus EDR. The display is at 640 x 320 with a touchscreen that has handwriting recognition with full finger navigation.  A full QWERTY keyboard is included in the package along with a 600 Megahertz TI OMAP 3430, stereo speakers, 192MB RAM, 16 BG internal memory, 256MB flash memory on a Symbian operating system. For web browsing, Opera 9.7 is the default browser while UIQ UI takes care of the interactions.

For those who cannot live with a phone without a camera, do not worry folks! XPERIA X10 has an 8.1 megapixel camera with LED flash, autofocus, Sony G-Lens, WVGA 30 fps stereo sound video, a digital zoom (20x) along with a glass lens cover.

The X factor is not just what is inside i.e. software; the hardware in the inside is also impeccable in quality. With the Lithium Polymer 1500 battery, you are sure not going to have dead batteries anytime soon.

The designer did not forget the gamers as well because the phone’s keyboard has gaming keys and with its widescreen display, gaming on the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 will be sheer pleasure.

The metal case is made out of textured metal with Chrome accents along the edges. The hard casing does not only function as the XPERIA X10′s protection but it also has a digital clock that is protected by fiberglass.

Sony Ericsson Kurara Preview

November 6th, 2009

Do you remember the newest phone from Sony Ericsson that appeared online with photos that did not show lots? Well the Sony Ericsson Kurara has been spotted (again) with newer, more vibrant images and now we can look at it closer than its first appearance online.

As reported by different websites all over the web the Kurara is the newest smartphone to be released in 2010. According to the grapevine though, it might be released under a different name -well whatever the name will be what is under the hood is what is important.

Sony-Ericsson-Kurara

Related to the Sony Ericsson Satio, Sony Ericsson has been working real hard to the Satio’s sequel -the rather elusive Kurara. Rumors say that the Kurara has a big touch screen of 3.5 inches along with an 8.1 megapixel camera. It is just of course just a rumor, hopefully Sony Ericsson will announce the specs of Kurara soon.

The company’s entertainment label -Walkman and Cybershot the Kurara will most likely be having these features along with a Xenon flash on the handset. Although these are not particularly thrilling, they are part of Sony Ericsson fans’ favorite Sony Ericsson handset staples.

The Sony Ericsson Kurara will most likely have microSD card support as well, making organization of music and photos a lot easier for the techno savvy, handset loving clientele.

According to more rumors, the Sony Ericsson Kurara will be out in the UK in early 2010. It might be named differently and with more specs we have not seen just yet but oh well, they key here is to wait wait wait.

The waiting game is the hardest part, especially now that competition between handsets is getting more fierce by the second. Once there are more rumors about the Sony Ericsson Kurara, we will surely update you.

Hopefully it will launch on March or May of 2010 in the United Kingdom.
