Nokia to Launch “Meltemi” OS for Low Cost Phones

October 3rd, 2011

There are two clear and distinct categories of cell phones users. The smart phone is here to stay and more and more are buying them for the features available other that talk & texting. The reality is however that low end phones such as SIM Free Nokia 2730 are still a huge business and Nokia is positioning them to continue to service it. There has been a recent announcement that Nokia is set to launch their Meltimi operating system designed for low end phones. This Linux based operating system is being developed in secrecy and very little is known about the features or what it will be able to do."Nokia"

There have been some rumors that they are working of having touch capabilities on the screen as well as the ability to run a very basic set of applications. Nokia sees the importance of phones in third world and developing countries and are continuing to support lower end phones. Other manufacturers on the other hand have decided to focus only on high end phones and features.

When you look at the sales figures for Nokia it is no wonder they continue to serve the needs of low end phone users such as SIM Free Nokia 2760 Fido. Last quarter reports suggest the low end phone sales accounted for nearly half of the company’s sales and service contracts. So while other mobile phone makers are racing for the fastest, thinnest most robust feature set available in a phone, Nokia is strengthening their hold on the low end phones market and are working on an OS that will be as smart phone like as possible keeping the costs down. They should be applauded for going that route and the end result will be better performing low end phones that should drive the pricing down of the feature rich super phones.

September 13th, 2011

Customer satisfaction plays a huge role within the mobile industry. The company is unable to keep their customers happy; you can bet that they will be quickly losing those same customers at the end of their contract. A recent survey that was conducted by JD power and Associates has confirmed what many have already thought – that Apple is going to be leaving the top of the list in terms of customer satisfaction. On a scale of 850, 838 points as the amount that Apple received atop the list in terms of customer satisfaction. They were followed by HTC, with a customer satisfaction survey rating of 801. The industry average of all companies combined 778. The 750+ range was filled with Samsung, Motorola, RIM, which is a much lower score at 762 then you would’ve thought that they would’ve received, LG, Palm, and the lowest was Nokia with a score of 721."JD power and Associates "

The company is able to ship the smartest phones it is also able to garner the highest overall satisfaction rating among their users. This is big news for Apple, as JD power and Associates is a company that is known for providing top-of-the-line data regarding customer satisfaction.

"apple"It has become clear, as Nokia has fallen from having the largest market share in the mobile industry, and now has, according to the survey, the lowest overall level of customer satisfaction, that they have been unable to keep up with the changes within the mobile industry. The current ring has been used with every Nokia device since 1994 and continues to be the most popular ring tone of the world. Now, they’re looking for people to help them do create their next ring tone which will hopefully become as iconic as the first.

It is interesting to see that the company is finally looking to move away from their current ring tone after having so many years behind the building of the first one. This is an interesting update from the company that has made it very clear that they are looking to change their image after being knocked out of the first position in the overall market share within the mobile industry.
