Gone is Google Buzz to Focus on Google+

October 17th, 2011

Over the past few years Google has been making several attempts to capture market share within the social networking industry. They released a handful of applications designed to try and gain some traction against the mighty Facebook. Tough task considering the sheer size of Facebook, but nonetheless important as the ability to do so clearly will provide an environment to push Google products.

On Friday, Google announced that it will be shutting down its Google Buzz service to focus exclusively on their new Google+ service. For those of you that don’t know, Google+ is an environment that allows you to create circles of friends in a private environment to share information similar to Facebook.Gone is Google Buzz to Focus on Google+

Initial reports of the recent launch have shown that Google has perhaps figured out the magic formula to creating an effective social networking environment. This release solidifies that as they now want to focus majority of their efforts on the Google+ platform.

Google Buzz was their attempt to try and merge e-mail, twitter, and Facebook like features into one simple environment. The problem was that the execution was poor and the service was more of a headache as opposed to a value added feature to the average user. Many of the key complaints were that Google Buzz automatically was added to Gmail accounts taking up valuable space and the attention span from users who only wanted to do e-mail. The implementation was taken straight out of the Facebook playbook and that they try to impose a new service without the consent of the user.Gone is Google Buzz to Focus on Google+

It will be interesting to see how the Google plus service further grows to become a legitimate competitor to Facebook. Many industry experts think it is too late, but anyone can do it is most probably Google as they are one of the few companies that have an existing user base to build a platform on.

Broadcom to Release New NFC Chips

September 29th, 2011

"nfc"There are many different kinds of companies that are looking to get in on the NFC payments bandwagon. It is already a pretty much foregone conclusion that at some point in the future the chips will become available and cell phone users such as SIM Free LG Mobile Optimus Quantum with Windows 7 will start to use mobile payments for many other new platforms. This is done something that many are already certain will become a very popular way to make payments on items in the future. Some large corporations, including Starbucks as well as other corporations have already implemented NFC technology in some form. Currently, it is not exactly clear when NFC technology will be taking off and becoming a popular technology that most of that would become. However, the recent announcement by Broadcom shows that there is a heavy demand for new chips that are capable of utilizing the technology."broadcom"

The 40nm -based chips are much smaller than the previous version of the chips that came in the BCM2079x family box of NFC chips. They are hoping that the new chip will be able to spur the adoption of NFC technology within the community. This would require more phones to adopt the technology and also for them to become more widespread to be used within individual stores. It will be interesting to see all the public reacts to this new chip and whether or not it makes a serious difference in whether people adopt a new technology or not. It is clear that NFC technology is coming in the future, but at this time is not certain when exactly people will begin to use it on their own mobile phones such as SIM Free Sony Ericsson XPERIA Arc.

Huawei to Use Discovery Channel to Build Discovery Expedition Handset

September 28th, 2011

It looks like Huawei will be working with the Discovery Channel on their newest headset, title the Discovery Expedition. The company has long history of partnering up with a number of different brands to release highly targeted phone for individuals. This phone will likely be used with outdoor activities that the Discovery Channel would be ideal at promoting. Previously they release a phone that was Red Bull branded."huawei"

They are reportedly building a phone for the woodsman that is able to stand up against the toughest of water, dust, and even the toughest of elements while you were out and about. It is certainly going to be marketed to the woodsman. It is a device that is going to be able to provide a number of specifically garnered applications and features that are going to make it appeal to people that spend a lot of time outdoors.

Another phone by Huawei release with the branding of an unaffiliated company shows that they have received some good results in the past from these devices. It will be interesting to see if the newest release of the Discovery Channel branded phone will reap the same rewards as the Africa Company in the past."Discovery-Channel"

The phone will not have a camera, much to the surprise of many. You would think that an outdoorsman branded camera would be able to provide them with some really interesting marketing techniques. The Discovery Channel has not yet commented on this, but you can bet that they will have something to say about it in the very near future, especially since Huawei is one of the top brands across the globe.

Kazaa Is Back From Dead as Music Subscription Mobile App

September 26th, 2011

"Kazaa"Kazaa was shut down some time ago for being a peer-to-peer music sharing application for sim free mobile phones such as SIM Free HTC 7 Surround. It is clear now, that even though it may have changed, that it is back in a big way. At one point it was known as a renegade file sharing service, and has been seemingly brought back on the deck. A number of legal battles and settlements were reached, and how they are able to bring the brand that. They are looking to compete with some of the other larger names in this business including Spotify and Zune which have had years to create technology while Kazaa was wrapped up in legal battles.

All you have to do is pay £6 per month and you will be able to stream as much music as you want as well is to store files locally on your computer. They said that they’re going to have a catalog that is millions of songs deep and will offer a seven day free trial subscription before the monthly fee kicks in.

"Spotify"It will be interesting to see if Kazaa is able to find a place within the market after having been out of it for so long. They have been able to put together a decent app, but that may not be enough for them to regain the users that they lost when they became wrapped up in all of the legal battles. The application will allow users to separate their songs by album, artist, playlist, recently downloaded songs, as well as songs that are currently being downloaded. It is a fairly basic application that provides basic features for song playing. It’ll be interesting to see how quickly this application rises in popularity as the Kazaa name is still barely relevant within the tech community, even if the music subscription service model is not a new thing at this point

Apple Satisfies Customers According to New Survey, RIM and Nokia Do Not

September 13th, 2011

Customer satisfaction plays a huge role within the mobile industry. The company is unable to keep their customers happy; you can bet that they will be quickly losing those same customers at the end of their contract. A recent survey that was conducted by JD power and Associates has confirmed what many have already thought – that Apple is going to be leaving the top of the list in terms of customer satisfaction. On a scale of 850, 838 points as the amount that Apple received atop the list in terms of customer satisfaction. They were followed by HTC, with a customer satisfaction survey rating of 801. The industry average of all companies combined 778. The 750+ range was filled with Samsung, Motorola, RIM, which is a much lower score at 762 then you would’ve thought that they would’ve received, LG, Palm, and the lowest was Nokia with a score of 721."JD power and Associates "

The company is able to ship the smartest phones it is also able to garner the highest overall satisfaction rating among their users. This is big news for Apple, as JD power and Associates is a company that is known for providing top-of-the-line data regarding customer satisfaction.

"apple"It has become clear, as Nokia has fallen from having the largest market share in the mobile industry, and now has, according to the survey, the lowest overall level of customer satisfaction, that they have been unable to keep up with the changes within the mobile industry. The company for the longest time have the largest amount of users using their devices, but recently fell farther down the list it will certainly be interesting to see how these companies toward the bottom of the list, most notably Nokia and Research In Motion respond to the fact that their customers have not been satisfied or some of the other leaders in the industry.

3G Coverage Survey Shows Brits Leading

August 29th, 2011

While the United Kingdom might have plenty of old world style attributes, it has become clear that they’ve been able to put together an excellent data network with their mobile phones such as SIM Free HTC Inspire that allow users to have access to some of the fastest mobile Internet in the world. The country has not yet entered the LTE era, but continues to climb toward that. The server that was conducted shows that while there are still some spots without reception in the country, 3G Internet is something that seems to be pretty widespread throughout the country as a whole."3G survey"

They have been using a number of applications developed you’re out where the outages are, and have been good about turning things around and starting to ensure that they are able to provide users with as good a service that they possibly can depending on the area. It has become abundantly clear that they are going to be one of the leading mobile nations in the world, and the survey shows that a wide majority of those that were surveyed are more than happy with the service that they have received."uk_surveydata"

The coverage was good over 70 to 80% of the United Kingdom, which is more than you can say for most countries that have a mobile setup. It would be interesting to see a similar survey done throughout Canada and the United States to get an idea of exactly which areas they are able to not cover with their cellular coverage. The high-speed networks certainly are not going to live up to the standards that have been sent by the United Kingdom, but it would be interesting to see a number of other countries take the same provisions that they have.

August 12th, 2011

HTCHTC has let a huge announcement leak, announcing that they have wired a large majority stake in the Beats by Dr. Dre franchise. The headphone franchise has quickly become one of the largest headphone franchises in the business, and this acquisition by HTC shows that they are serious about getting into other media. HTC will use this investment to add the technology to their phones. The Beats by Dre headphones have taken over the headphone market enough quickly become the most popular headphones around.Beats by Dr. Dre

It will be interesting, to say the least, to see how they utilize the new acquisition and whether or not they are going to be offering any new phones complete with headphones from the brand. Dr. Dre has not been highly involved with beats other than to have his name attached to them. They have been a very profitable venture for him and have allowed him to keep his name in the market even as users avidly await the release of detox. HTC appears to be spreading out to other media and it doesn’t look like they’re going to be stopping anytime soon. This acquisition is definitely one that users will enjoy; it should allow them to put together an excellent campaign for several new phones. HTC has continued to garner a larger share of the market over the course of the past few months and has established them as a leader within the industry.
