Motorola MILESTONE now available through O2 Germany

November 26th, 2009

Motorola cell phone known as “Milestone”, the first GSM Google Android 2.0 handset, is now listed on O2 Germany site.

People in Germany are getting ready to enjoy this Christmas with Motorola Android as O2, provider of mobile, fixed and broadband services in UK, Ireland, Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia, is now making the Motorola Milestone available to them.

Milestone is priced at Euro 549.99. If you buy the phone only, the cost is Euro 481, but if you buy it with a plan, then listed price has to be paid. The price difference between handset price and handset-with-plan price is a bit off the beaten track.

The O2 German site talks about ordering the phones now but there was no information we could find regarding shipping of the phones. As per reports, shipping is expected to start soon. Vodafone Germany and some Italian carriers might be the next in line to get the unlocked Motorola cell phone “Milestone”.

Milestone is a competitor to Apple’s iPhone. It is worth noting that Motorola Droid is known as Motorola Milestone outside of US. The Droids (US versions) lacked multi-touch feature.

Though Milestone lacks Google Navigation Beta it is one up over Droid because of its multi-touch support. Milestone includes iPhone-like pinch facility. Like Droid, it has a 3.7 inch capacitive touch-screen, 480×854-pixel screen resolution, 5-megapixel camera with dual-Led Flash. Its QWERTY keyboard comes with two blank keys (bottom left and right) which is uncommon.

Milestone offers 60-day free trial of MOTONOV, which is Motorola’s own spoken turn-by-turn guidance and mapping system. The Google Maps Navigation doesn’t work in Europe. Milestone comes with 8GB microSD card, which is half the GB offered by Verizon Droid.

The Motorola Milestone is definitely making ripples in the market unlike some of its predecessors. Let’s see if it can bring Motorola again to the prime of its business life.
