Mobistar tests LTE in Belgium with great results

July 30th, 2010

If we are really waiting for something to enter the mobile phone market, it is the LTE however sadly, there is not a slim chance of it coming into the mobile phone area. In fact it will surely be some years before phones with LTE services come into the market. However do not get down with this bit of news as in all actuality there is some positive information that we can give you in this regard. We have recently received some reports that Mobistar which is one of Belgium’s larger operators just acquired a permit from the Institute of Postal Services and Telecom in Belgium such that they can actually have a testing done of this network in the region of the Evere-Diegern and the results have been more than encouraging.

In terms of the outcome of the results, we can safely say that it was more than outstanding with download speeds of 60 megabit per second and 18 millisecond worth of latency which takes place within the network. This pretty much means that data transfer is almost ten times faster than the miniscule speeds of around 7.2 megabit per sec which is prevalent today, together with a latency of 70 milliseconds. In the future, Mobistar has planned to dish out an offer of 14.4 megabit per second by the end of this summer and and also assured double of that within the end of this year. Updating your devices will be much easier than we thought it would be and in fact it would take only a small software update to your mobile phone web page. In spite of al this; there is no word yet on when the LTE channel will open for Unlocked Mobile Phone users and we definitely will be having the best information about the developments in this regard.
