Mobile Subscribers now up to as high as 5 Billion
Now this is some amazing news as the recent ABI survey has pointed out in corroboration with giants Ericsson that the total level of mobile phone subscribers in the world have become as high as 5 billion which they say it has touch. In terms of the region wise breakdown, their report says that the Asia Pacific and more importantly the Africa area are the regions with the fastest growing subscribers all around the world. African mobile phone subscribers are apparently growing by the rate of around 22% per year while the mobile phone coverage will reach to high levels of around 65% in the Asian and the Pacific areas.
In terms of growth per day, Ericsson have said that there are as many as 500 million new customers who are being added on each day and by the end of the year 2020 it will be reaching somewhere around the level of 50 billion. These are some outstanding numbers we think. Although the market in the east is primarily mixed, the western markets in Europe and America have a large number of people who are buying new convergence devices like the iPad 3G which is a prime example. However, most of the growth here is due to the emergence of the power of the upcoming eastern markets of China and India, although India still lacks behind China. This is due to the fact that wireless telephony is still not that big in India and especially the market of the mobile internet is not really big yet. However the growing trends are encouraging.
We do look at the rate at which mobiles are being developed and digital technology is booming, but when you consider that the global population stands at 6.8 billion and there are 5 billion unlocked mobile phone users, this is completely astounding.
