Amazon Releases Free App for BlackBerry
It is not really a surprise that Amazon is offering a free Kindle app for BlackBerry users. It is called Kindle for BlackBerry and will work on numerous BlackBerry devices such as the Curve, Bold and Storm. Amazon launched a similar application last year for iPhone users.
The application can be downloaded from the BlackBerry app store and will allow you to access Kindle books. Most of the books will cost less than ten dollars. Amazon said that they are releasing this app based on customer requests to be able to use kindle on the BlackBerry mobile devices.
The Kindle has had its share of controversy recently for the low prices that it offers. Many publishers have resented the price war that Amazon has created. What we do know is this announcement for the various BlackBerry devices comes just after the release of the iPad. It is anticipated that Apple will be offering its own application for their iPad and iPhone very soon that is going to give Amazon and the Kindle a run for their money.
Here is the kicker though, you still need to purchase a Kindle and then it will sync between your PC, Kindle and BlackBerry. You will be able to create bookmarks and annotations. It will still let your preview the first chapter before you purchase an ebook. It is not yet available in UK unless you register a US address in your Amazon account. We should see this change as more carriers allow the Amazon Kindle on their platforms.
This latest announcement from Amazon should be the first of many as they want to make their Kindle the first choice before Apple has the chance to get theirs up and going. We should see much more information becoming available very soon. So all you BlackBerry Bold 2 unlocked users go ahead and get the free application.
